Calculation of the non-linear relaxational acoustic attenuation in glasses
نویسندگان
چکیده
The non-linear relaxational acoustic attenuation in amorphous materials is calculated by a perturbation method. A saturation of the attenuation is found for insulating glasses. On the contrary an increase of attenuation is obtained in ideal glassy metals where relaxation is due to electrons only. In the case of real amorphous metals, where both electrons and phonons are active in the relaxation process, the previous two behaviours are obtained, depending on the temperature range. The comparison with experimental results indicates that a purely relaxational attenuation process is not sufficient to explain the observed features. A more complicated mechanism (where both resonant and relaxational processes are present) has to be considered. J. متن کاملAcoustic attenuation in a three-gas mixture: Results
Acoustic attenuation in a mixture of gases results from the combined effects of molecular relaxation and the classical mechanisms of viscosity and heat conduction. Consequently, the attenuation depends on the composition of the gas mixture, acoustic frequency, temperature, and pressure. A model of the relaxational attenuation that permits the calculation of acoustic attenuation is used to predi...
متن کاملAcoustic phonon absorption and dispersion in hydroxyl-doped KCl crystals at low temperatures
2014 The acoustic properties of hydroxyl-doped KCl crystals have been measured by Brillouin scattering in the temperature range 1 to 50 K. For samples with OHcontent higher than 200 ppm, two features dominate the temperature dependence of the attenuation, namely an absorption peak around 20 K and a strong increase of the damping with decreasing temperature below 5 K. The results bear some simil...
